Despite my first week of the month being slow for reading, I possibly added a few more hopefuls to my TBR…logic right? However, I have been reading a lot more. It kind of looks like a normal week, but the books I have been reading are pretty big. It seems like I’m in the mood for big books this month!

Anyway, here’s what I’ve been reading this week:

Currently Reading:

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

A Little Life follows four college classmates who move to New York. Over time they navigate complexities and their own relationships, but they find that Jude has been struggling and continues to suffer, defined by the unspeakable traumas that defined his childhood and his adult life.

My pacing with reading this book has essentially reading a huge chunk of it, then stopping when it gets really emotionally heavy. I’ll be done reading this within the next couple of days. And honestly, I can’t say everything I have to say in this little text box as far as updates go. As I read this book I think so much about mental health and how we care for others, as well as how the biggest things go unnoticed by so many people. This of course comes with the other characters and their flaws, and how they add or detract from the situation. I have a lot brewing in my head, so I’ll save it for when I finish the book and write my final thoughts.

A Gallery of Mothers by J.S. Latshaw

A Gallery of Mothers is the sequel to The Threat Below. Mountaintop, the last known village of humanity, is at risk of its end, and only Icelyn Brathius can save it. But in order to do so, she must travel to a legendary tower in the middle of an unforgiving desert – and face the truths that she’s given.

The author gifted me a copy of this book. I just read the first book last month and I’m happy to dive into this world again! I’m haven’t made too much progress yet though.

Recently Read:

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë

This classic follows Helen Graham, who returns to Wildfell Hall after a failed marriage. There, she starts her life under a new name and makes a living as a painter.

I really liked the concept of this book and exploring the perception of divorced wives in the Victorian era, and specifically trying to break the stigma of that. I’m still putting my thoughts together on this one too. I didn’t find myself as interested in some of the other characters and I think that contributed to my feelings about the book. I’m not really sure how I feel yet!

Devonna by Audrey Francis-Plante

Six years after the death of her cousin, Devonna Moreau still carries the guilt of it all. The truth is, that she may have been able to save her if she were able physically feel anything. Until one day, Devonna feels the touch of Bram Hanaghan – but Bram is a ghost. Devonna hopes to use the encounter to find her cousin, but vengeful ghosts have other plans for her.

I won this book in a giveaway from the author. This was a unique read! I enjoyed reading a ghost story as I feel like I don’t see those as often lately. While I wish the book was a little more descriptive, I enjoyed the journey and the characters from the other side as they were introduced to Devonna.

Up Next:

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

The Shadow of the Wind is a historical fiction novel that takes place in 1940’s Barcelona. It follows a book dealer’s son, who, while greiving the loss of his mother, finds comfort in a book called The Shadow of the Wind. But as he searches for the author’s other works, he finds that someone has been destroying them, and he may have the last copy. Set out to know why, the narrator delves into Barcelona’s history and secrets.

This book has been on my TBR for way too long, so I’m looking forward to finally diving into it. I imagine this one is going to be extremely immersive, so I plan for it to be my weekend read.

That’s all for this week’s WWW Wednesday. Leave a comment if you participated this week too so I can read your post – or let me know what you’re currently reading below!
