The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History by Elizabeth Kolbert
The Sixth Extinction explores the worlds five mass extinctions and their causes. With a sixth mass extinction in our future, Kolkert discusses the current state of our planet and our climate – and how humans may very well become responsible for what could be the world’s largest mass extinction.
I bought this book a while back, and while I wanted to pick it up while on a non-fiction kick. Lately I’ve had a growing interest in our environment and making positive changes for it, and this book so far is very informative – but also concerning! I’m nearly done with this book; I’ll probably finish it within a day or two.
Recently Read:
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
The Picture of Dorian Gray, an originally controversial novel at its time of publication, features a man who sells his soul in exchange for eternal youth and beauty.
As expected, this turned out to be on my list of favorite classics! I loved the exploration of the themes this novel presents regarding beauty, immortality, and relationships. I could easily see myself going back and annotating a second copy – something I rarely do unless I really like the book. There were a lot of quotes in here that I resonated with and this is definitely a classic I’ll revisit multiple times in the future.

Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery by Robert Kolker
Lost Girls is a true crime book featuring the mystery behind the murders of several women, and their found bodies on Long Island’s Ocean Parkway ten years ago. This book investigates what we know about the cold case and the victims, and the questions left to be answered.
I bought this at the same time as The Sixth Extinction, so this is also a book that’s been on my TBR for a while. As a Long Islander myself, I remember hearing nothing of the murders after the discovery, and wanted to learn more about this local tragedy and the victims. When buying this book, my friends told me that we *may* know who was behind all this, so I’m curious to see how much this book will cover.
That’s all for this week’s WWW Wednesday. I’m still on a non-fiction kick but I think my TBR in the coming weeks will feature a lot more fiction.
Leave a comment if you participated this week too so I can read your post – or let me know what you’re currently reading below!
Lost Girls sounds very interesting. I read a lot of fictionalized mysteries but never real ones. Maybe I need to add some real ones to my book mix ❤️
Yes, true crime is a very interesting genre! I feel like there’s so many little things you learn about when you read them as well.
I put The Sixth Extinction on my TBR shelf a while ago, though I don’t have a copy yet. It’s definitely something I want to check out too, but I feel like I’d have to steel myself a little to prep for reading. I’m afraid it will depress me.
Have a great week!

Yes, there’s so much content in the book that makes me nervous about the state of our planet. It’s certainly informative though and while I haven’t finished it yet, I do recommend it so far!
Lost Girls looks like one I would enjoy. Thanks for sharing, and here’s MY WWW POST
Yes, I flipped through it and it looks like it’s going to be pretty in-depth!
I really enjoyed The Picture of Dorian Gray when I read it, too! It’s a really quotable book to start with, and I actually ended up really liking the characters (as intolerable as some of them were haha). Happy reading!
Here’s my WWW post.
Yes! I feel like you know when a book is good when you remain interested in characters despite their personality and choices!
