Happy September! I managed to read a ton last week, which means I got to read everything on my TBR and then some! But I have another 9 books on my TBR this month (although mostly shorter books), so we’ll see if I can do it again. Here’s how my reading is going now:
Currently Reading:
Nobody Knows but You by Anica Mrose Rissi
Nobody Knows but You is a YA mystery/thriller that takes place at a summer camp. Kayla knows Lainie’s secrets – and best friends don’t share their secrets. None of this changes when someone is murdered at the end of summer. After all, the truth does not tell the whole story.
I definitely wanted to read more YA mystery/thrillers, and I received an ARC of this book so it worked out! I’m a bit of a mood reader as well and this seems like the perfect time of year to read a book like this.
Recently Read:
To Sleep in A Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini
To Sleep in A Sea of Stars follows Kira, who discovers an alien relic during a survey mission on an uncolonized planet. But when the ancient dust around her begins to move, Kira’s ideas of First Contact aren’t what they seem.
I really liked this book! This book had all of the elements I was looking for in a space opera, so the amount of time the author put into this book definitely shows. The only thing I would have liked to see more of were some fleshing out of characters, but other than that, it was overall an enjoyable read!
Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall
Hood Feminism is all about the many issues covered under feminism that are rarely prioritized. It also discusses the lack of intersectionality in much of the mainstream feminist movement and how the lack of inclusion within the movement impacts marginalized groups. This book brings those issues to light and illustrates the importance of solidarity within in order for the feminist movement to benefit more people.
This is definitely a book that I recommend. While not everyone might like the more casual style of writing, this book definitely provides a lot of information about issues that aren’t getting the attention that they need.
Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power
Burn Our Bodies Down follows Margot, whose family as she knows it consists of her and her mother. She knows nothing else of her family history until she finds the name of her mother’s hometown and goes there to investigate. Margot wants to find out why she left, but she knows for sure that there’s something wrong regarding her past, and she may never be able to leave.
I’ve been hearing good things about this book! I also wanted to read this one towards the end of August because I thought it would be a good one to read going into fall. Given the size of To Sleep in A Sea of Stars I probably won’t be reading this one until the weekend, but it’s a weekend read I look forward to!
Up Next:
Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo
When Camino Rios is supposed to meet his father at the airport in the Dominican Republic, she arrives to find out that he has passed in a plane crash. Meanwhile in New York, Yahaira Rios finds out of his father’s death when her mother meets her at the principal’s office at school. And while handling their grief, Camino and Yahaira learn of each other.
My copy of this just came in so I definitely want to read it next! This is my first book by Acevedo and I’m looking forward to reading a book in verse.
That’s all for this week’s WWW Wednesday. Leave a comment if you participated this week too so I can read your post – or let me know what you’re currently reading below!

Burn Our Bodies Down sounds interesting, and the cover is gorgeous! Looking forward to your thoughts on Clap When You Land. I’ve only ever read one book in verse, and that was ages ago, so curious to get my hands on Acevedo’s.
I hope you like them if you decide to read them! Burn Our Bodies down is nice for fall if you’re a seasonal mood reader. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book in verse too, so I’m really excited for it!
Thank you and happy September to you, too! Also well done on reading all of the books on your TBR list. I hope September is as good if not better than August for reading for you! 😊
